Transformation
For the past four months I've been doing a restricted calorie weight management plan through Kaiser, living on 960 calories a day, which has been pretty successful. I've just completed the active weight loss portion of the program, and am transitioning my daily calories back up to the maintenance level, which I'm guessing will be around 1800 per day.
During this period I've lost about 60 pounds, dropped 9 inches off my waist, gone from a 12-minute to a 9-minute mile, and stopped snoring almost completely. I've also spent an absurd amount of money on clothes that I was only able to wear for several weeks.
It's been an important transition for me, and I'm looking forward to the challenge ahead of keeping the weight off while still enjoying my life, which is a balance that has always been difficult for me. In order to accomplish that, I've started a public record of my ongoing efforts, which over the next year I expect to form the basis of a publishable book. If the stars align, by this time next year I will be a fitness role model for middle-aged fat men (a large and under-served demographic) which will lead to a best-selling book, an appearance on Oprah, and my own quirky 30-minute show on the Food Network. And even if it doesn't work out that way, I will at least have learned how to be skinny and satisfied, which will be pretty good, too.
