Wet Suit

I'm now the proud owner of a wetsuit.

All my bootcamp friends are doing triathalons this summer. Since I sucked so badly at the one I did last year...panicking on the swim, I didn't think it was in the cards for me. But a friend said to try with a wetsuit. Not for warmth, but for buoyancy. I was doubtful the buoyancy would help me when the piranha started nibbling my feet, but rented one to check it out.

It was great. I was nervous the first day swimming at 7am in a lake with 6 bootcampers out past the ropes and buoys. But the second time I did it, it was fine. As was the third, almost good. The wetsuit made all the difference.

So I decided to buy it. They had told me that I could just buy the one I rented at the end of the rental period so I stopped in the store to sign the paperwork. I could have gotten one cheaper, but the thought of going wetsuit shopping made me highly anxious and I was willing to pay a premium to keep the one hanging in my bathroom.

The clerk took about 15 minutes of staring at her computer/register mumbling before telling me "Ok, that will be $275." Huh? They told me $240 I replied. She mumbled some more about discounts and training groups and prices and then told me the only prices she saw were $249 (for their training group) and $299. Huh, again. I was prepared to walk so she somehow decided that I was worthy enough for the $249 price. A full 5 minutes later, she gives me the receipt to sign and says, "Ok, that will be $191 with the tax."

I don't make a sound, sign it, and walk out. I still don't fully understand what happened, but I wasn't about to stick around to find out.

Yay! I have never done a race without one and I swear I'd wear it if it were 100 degrees out. It's a security blanket and I love mine (except for the neck velcro is facing the wrong way but that's something I'll fix... one day).

Looking forward to doing some open water swims with you.
