Talk with Parker's Teacher

After the 7 school assignment, I got a little worried Parker was being obnoxious in class (saying how easy it all was) so I stopped by to talk with teacher this morning. I told her my concern and she said I had nothing to worry about. Not only was he not obnoxious, but he had a great time doing the assignment. She said she was impressed that he was able to think about the same problem in a more complex way thus being able to stay with the class but not do the exact same work. She even said that she gave him another number (11) to do, but he was so busy working on 7 that he didn't get to 11. I told her he was smart, not fast.

Then she showed me this book that they made in class. It was called 'A house is a home for us" and it was a picture from each kid along those lines. Like, " a dog house is a home for dogs." "a gingerbread house is a home for gingerbread men." Then she showed me Parkers. He did, "The universe is a home for planets" and then drew all the planets in order in the right size properly labeled. This, apparently, is not typical. She added that he had a great time doing it and he is, you see, still a 6 year old boy.

She said they were still coming up a with a plan for him, but that the math resource specialist said he was "exceptional". We'll get more info later on that. But she did say they hoped they could keep him in the classroom setting doing similar work as others, but in a slightly different way.

I went back up to the playground to get Parker and he was playing a nice impromptu came of tag with some kids from his class and from other grades who saw him playing and asked to join in. This made me happy and I was more proud of that then the universe, planets, or number 7.
