A typical conversation with Parker

We talk a lot about the various facets of Ted & Lion around here, their favorite activities, their meal and dessert preferences, their genders, and their ages. Their ages have fluctuated over the years, but currently Lion is 10 years old and Ted is 6 years old. Lion just turned 10 a couple of weeks ago, so it's been high on the list of likely conversation topics.

Tonight Parker said to me, "Two years ago Lion was 8 years old."

I replied, "Does that mean that Ted was only 4 years old?"

To which Parker replied, "Yeah, when Lion was 8 years old, Ted was only 4 years old."

He paused to reflect, and then added: "When Lion is 12 years old, Ted will be 8 years old. And when Lion is 20 years old, Ted will be 16 years old. And when Lion is 28 years old, Ted will be 24 years old. And when Lion is 36 years old, Ted is going to be 32 years old."

I asked him, "When Ted is 21 years old, how old will Lion be?"

He looked at me for a moment with his head tilted, as if he wasn't sure whether it was a trick question or I was just an idiot. And then he replied, "Lion will be 25."
